With the shifting business environment, IT jobs and skills have evolved, creating the need for a New IT workforce. Savvy technology leaders have begun to develop this workforce, positioning their organizations for a fast-changing digital world.

It is no illusion that jobs are changing quickly throughout the financial services sector. Business management and operations today are increasingly shifting from traditional to technology-oriented practices to meet organizations’ increasing dependency on technology.   • Expanding the talent ecosystem − Evolving customer demands are changing expectations for user and employee experiences, leading to new operations and talent needs. Organizations also face increasing competition in attracting and retaining top tech talent among the Millennial workforce.

Ten steps to building the IT Workforce of the Future

Creating the IT Workforce of the Future involves an appreciation of the changing nature of work, and of the workforce needed to enable digital transformation. To do this, organizations will need to shift the paradigm in 10 steps, from a traditional, old-world, solid-but-inert workforce to one that is smart, agile and ready for the future. These are:

  1. From fixed mindset to growth mindset;
  2. From a focus on predictability and efficiency to speed-to-value and innovation (fail fast);
  3. From siloed teams with coordinated handoffs to integrated, cross-functional teams without barriers;
  4. From larger, global delivery teams to smaller, agile “two-pizza” teams;
  5. From I-shaped teams with depth of experience/skills to T-shaped teams with depth and breadth of experience/skills;
  6. From structured, linear (“waterfall”) processes to faster, iterative (“agile”) processes
  7. From large-batch deployment to lean MVP (minimum viable product) management and small batching;

Thank you, this is such a nice article, it says all about the disruption of the new tech trends to the IT industry and banks. I would like to add a point which you have mentioned in the article, the ten steps to build the IT workforce. I think it is all starting with the initial design process of the workflow of the entire project. The one who decides to lead the digital transformation with two pizza size team must design the activities and set deadlines to meet the end customer needs. I think planning is a crucial part than execution and post-implementation evaluation metrics.
